GF-5 Motor Oils and Their Fuel Economy Benefits

Oil standards have been increasing and this is very good news for the American Consumer and in helping us get off our dependency on foreign oils. Why is this you ask. Well currently the new standards coming into play are GF-4 motor oils, which will increase fuel economy and allow engines to run smoother with less pollution.

Less friction means smoother running engines, longer engine life, less pollution and better fuel economy. But GF-5 motor oil standards may do even better than this allowing for even better fuel economy with less pollution than the GF-4 motor oil standards.

Another major benefit of the GF-5 motor oils will be the time between oil changes. Normally most say that you need to change your oil every 3,000 miles although others say 5,000 is fine. Yet with GF-5 motor oils you can expect oil change intervals of 8,000 or more. Great sounds good so what is the catch? Well for the consumer it will cost you more but if you have to change the oil less it makes up for the double or almost triple cost. And you will be helping the environment and there will be less used oil to recycle or re-refine or dispose of too.

For the retailer doing oil changes it will raise their costs and reduce the number of visits and that is a little disconcerting for them. Something to think on for sure.
