Buying a Trampoline and Trampoline Accessories

Whatever way you look at it kids love trampolines. The kids on the street who have a trampoline in their backyard will be bringing home a hoard of friends every day of the week. If you've decided to buy your first trampoline then there are some important considerations as well as a quick (but important) safety lesson for you and your kids.

There are a huge selection of trampoline shapes and sizes to fit whatever space you have available, whether it's for indoors or outside. Starting right from toddler age right up to trampolines for adults and budding acrobats- the choices are endless so the best place to start is with any size restrictions you have.

Size and Shape

The size of your yard may influence the size and shape of trampoline you choose.

A minimum of 6 feet in all directions is recommended around your trampoline, making sure the trampoline is free of overhead wires, overhanging branches from trees and fences.

Trampolines come in circular, rectangular and square shapes. There are differences in the 'bounce' of each shape of trampoline. Circular trampolines will keep the bouncer in the middle, thus are better for beginners, rectangular trampolines give the highest bounce, thus are better for gymnasts and square trampolines are somewhere in between.

Trampoline Accessories

This where you can really go wild, whether it be with a range of safety accessories or a load of fun stuff for the kids to do while they are on their new trampoline.

The most important of the safety accessories is of course the safety net / enclosure. All of the above shapes of trampoline can be fitted with safety nets which absorb the impact from falls and allow inexperienced users to gain confidence without the fear of falling off. Other safety accessories you select will depend on the placement of your trampoline. Of course your kids will only be interested in the trampoline accessories that extend their play possibilities- things like a Bounce Board, Bog Top Tent or a Basketball Goal Set. These are all fun additions but should come secnd in line behind any required safety trampoline accessories.

Quality

With an item that is as reliant on quality as a trampoline is, the option of skimping on price is not one I recommend. When shopping for a trampoline look for good (if not lifelong) warranties on the frame as well as an indication of the life of the pads and mat. Ask plenty of questions to make sure you are buying a trampoline that truly suits your families needs and wants.
